The Macallan Exceptional Single Cask 1950, according to those behind it, was distilled back in 1950 and bottled late last year, making it just shy of 68 years old. It is said to herald from a first fill sherry butt, with only enough liquid left in the cask to produce some 336 bottles, each bottled at 53.4% ABV. When you think about the long history this distillery has, it is interesting to take note of what was going on in the 1950s when this whisky was distilled. It represented a significant time for The Macallan, with “investment in the construction of new buildings on site and modernisation of existing buildings, the purchase of additional farmland and the first of The Macallan highland cows take residence on site.”
