Stags' Leap Winery Petite Sirah 2013
Stags' Leap Winery Petite Sirah 2013
Wine Enthusiast 91 points - A lofty violet perfume meets bold black pepper in this lively, fresh and memorable wine, which blends smaller amounts of Syrah, Grenache and other Rhone varieties. Blackberry, blueberry and leather form a reel of highlights that is soft enough to enjoy now..Virginie Boone, March/2017
eRobertParker.com 88 points - Stags’ Leap has always had a great reputation for its Petite Sirahs. The 2013 Petite Sirah from Napa is 78% Petite Sirah, 11% Syrah, 8% Grenache and the rest Mixed Blacks, aged 12 months in 100% American oak. Blackberry and blueberry fruit, floral notes, licorice and camphor are all present in this medium to full-bodied, but excruciatingly tannic wine that needs at least 7-8 years of cellaring. If the tannins don’t subside, my rating will look excessive..Robert Parker, March/2016
Out of a 1920s era field blend block has risen a legacy of richly aromatic Petite Syrahs, voluptuous in the mouth, central to Stags’ Leaps’ commitment to Rhône varietals. In a way, the heritage vines have been the winery’s coach in learning how Petite Syrah likes to be made into wine. "Petite Syrah craves the company of other Rhône varietals,” says winemaker Kevin Morrisey. "She blossoms in their presence. The flavors, structure, and elegance express themselves with greater intensity and purity from the soft touch of cross-blending.” The winery’s long association with prime Petite Syrah growers in the Napa Valley has resulted in an optimum choice of fruit every season.
