Chateau Chauvelet Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc 2016
Chateau Chauvelet Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc 2016
Rather austere stony aromas of grapefruit, lime and sage. Bright, juicy and minerally on the palate, with steely flavors of grapefruit and dusty stone lifted by a floral note. This easy-to-drink, suave sauvignon has plenty of early appeal but also a firm underlying structure and a brisk finish.
In France, Sauvignon blanc is grown in the maritime climate of Bordeaux (especially in Entre-Deux-Mers, Graves and Pessac-Léognan as a dry wine, and in Sauternes as a sweet wine) as well as the continental climate of the Loire Valley (as Pouilly Fumé, Sancerre, and Sauvignon de Touraine).
The Sauvignon Blanc grape originated in the same region as America’s two most popular red grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the Bordeaux region of France. In Bordeaux, it is believed that the grape was given the name Sauvignon Blanc from the French word sauvage, which means wild, because the grape grew like a weed throughout the region. Instead of being fermented and bottled on its own, winemakers in Bordeaux chose to use Sauvignon Blanc in their white blends and to make the dessert wine Sauterne.
