Bodega Norton Privada 2016
David Bonomi says that he likes the “focus” of the cooler 2016 vintage and I think he’s right when the wines are as good as this cuvée of Malbec with 30% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Dense, savoury and serious, with subtle wood, chalky intensity and layers of herbal liquorice and dark berry fruit. Superb
James Suckling 93 points - Impressive depth and richness, as well as balance and freshness here. The dark plums and berries hold very focused and even. Great length to the fresh, spicy finish. A blend of malbec, merlot, and cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold..March/2019
Grapes from 50- to 90-year-old vines yield this outstanding, elegant yet lush blend of 40% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 30% Merlot with big notes of leather, espresso, and black olive. Black cherry washes over black pepper on the finish.
Wine Spectator 91 points - Concentrated dark fruit and chocolate mousse flavors are framed by firm tannins and acidity in this inky, muscular style. Sanguine notes fill the finish, complemented by plenty of dried beef and savory accents. Needs a good steak. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Drink now through 2023. 15,000 cases made, 8,000 cases imported...November/2019
When it comes to the current wines, they are working to produce wines with less oak and better freshness, in search of the wine from specific places rather than blends from different wines. This started with the whites in 2015 and the reds in 2016. As I’ve seen in many other wineries, they have a tendency to use more grapes from the Valle de Uco in the more expensive ranges. - Luis Gutierrez, 237, The Wine Advocate, 29th Jun 2018
