Dark golden in color, Avion Reserva 44 Tequila is aged for 43 months in oak barrels and then it was aged for an additional month in specially selected petite barrels, which are rotated daily. The tequila is then hand-filled into a fire polished crystal bottle, hand numbered and individually signed by Founder, Ken Austin. This full-bodied tequila boasts complex aromas of cinnamon, clove, citrus, caramel, and agave. On the palate, notes of dark berry, caramel, sweet spice and cocoa integrates seamlessly with the rich agave flavor and extend throughout the long, flavorful and intense finish.Tequila Avión is a highlands tequila and that's obvious from the first sniff. The floral and sweet aromas typical of highlands tequila are there. We've sat on this review for quite a while now as we wanted to do it justice, Tequila Avión is an incredibly balanced high-end tequila. Now I've been drinking tequila for quite some time so I knew from the first sip that we had a contender on our hands, but it's so balanced that I wanted to be sure that I was picking it all up and we'd do the brand justice. As I swirl the tequila in my Riedel glass I'm seeing quick legs and clear beading on the glass. The aroma is clean and crisp, the agave pepper is subtle with very little alcohol aroma coming off of it. The taste is sweet and light with the quality of the water used in the production of this tequila being very apparent. Avión themselves claim that there are clear mint aromas and flavors in the mix but I just couldn't pick them out. The citrus flavors that are present are surprisingly of pineapple, which was a real pleasure, the finish is soft, smooth with a hint of agave. This is something that I think the current tequila market is going to lap up.Avión was born from a love of tequila and its rich robust agave flavor. Founder Ken Austin embarked on a journey to fulfill his dream and create a tequila that would celebrate the highlands’ agave flavor. This led Ken to Jesus Maria, where the world’s best agave is grown and where the Lopez family lovingly manages the land.Together in collaboration Ken and the Lopez family spent years blending old-school tequila making techniques with a philosophy of never cutting corners and focusing on the art of creating tequila. Every step of the process works to preserve and enhance the natural, rich, roasted flavors of the Avión agave. This is Avión, which bartenders, consumers and experts describe as, quite simply, delicious.
