Alexander Sandro is made by Yoram Shalom at the Alexander Winery at Moshav Beit Yitzhak in the Hefer Valley near Netanya. The winery was founded in 1996 and makes about 60,000 bottles of wine a year. He only uses grapes from the Kfar Shamai and Kerem Ben Zimra vineyards in the northern Galilee and is very involved in the cultivation of the vines. The Sandro is a delighfully original blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 70%, Merlot 26%, Sauvignon Blanc 4%.
The wine was fermented slowly and then aged in oak barrels (80% French, 20% American) for 14 months. Deep burgundy in color with a hint of black, this wine's rich bouquet is full of ripe forest fruit. On the palate, the taste is of forest berries, ripe cherries and plums blends with supple tannins. Best served with cold meats or veal dishes.
